A little bit of guidance on caring for your precious metal, diamond and gemstone jewellery.

CLEANING

Clean your jewellery with a soft toothbrush and warm soapy water - we suggest a baby's toothbrush and a wee bit of fairy liquid. Leave to air dry on a clean tissue or cloth.

Softer, more porous stones such as emerald and pearl should avoid water and soap, and should be cleaned simply by polishing them with a soft cloth.
Remove your jewellery when you shower, bathe or engage in heavy exercise, particularly when swimming in the sea or a chlorinated swimming pool to maintain its clarity and protect it from unnecessary chemicals or dirt.

If you'd like a thorough cleaning, drop by and see Sophie at her Hatton Garden studio or a convenient meeting spot. She'll use an ultrasonic cleaner to dig out all the dirt in your jewellery and carry out a full service of each piece - we'll have the wine chilled for your arrival.

STORING

All our stones are natural, leaving them susceptible to damage over time. Reduce the risk of your stones scratching one another by keeping jewels separated from each other with a piece of tissue when travelling or in different compartments of a jewellery box at home.

Store your jewels out of direct sunlight, especially coloured gemstones and opals. Opals will need a tiny pot of water in the drawer or cupboard they are stored in to prevent cracking, known as 'crazing'.

DRESSING UP

Always put your jewellery on last after applying any hairspray, perfume, makeup before heading out on the town, to stop any chemical damage.
